9 Sleeps To WMBP – Dan Barham

May 9, 2012

As we count down the days to the opening of the Whistler Mountain Bike Park on May 18 (nine sleeps as of today), Whistler Is Awesome will profile some of the riders out there that are most looking forward to getting back on the trails!

Dan Barham, opening day, whistler mountain bike park, what day does, Whistler, Bike Park, open, Whistler Bike Park, Dan Barham, anticipation

Name: Dan Barham
Originally from Manchester, UK, but now living on Vancouver’s North Shore, Dan shoots outdoor photography for numerous editorial and commercial clients across the globe.

Years riding lift-accessed bike parks: Five

Bike: 2012 Norco Aurum LE

3 things that you have done / are doing to get ready for opening day of the Whistler Mountain Bike Park:
01 Tinkering with my bike to achieve that perfect blend of performance and lift lineup posing potential
02 Pretending I have a chance in hell of riding as well as Adam Billinghurst in “Strength In Numbers”
03 Sending out daily good vibes to Brian Finestone and the Whistler Mountain Bike Park Trail Crew clearing the trails

First trail you are heading for when the Bike Park opens: Crank It Up, it’s a great warm-up to remind me what I’ve been missing for much of the winter – speed and airtime!

Trail that you are most anticipating riding this season: The new alpine “Top of the World” trail! It’s spectacularly beautiful up there, so to get the chance to ride bikes in such a breathtaking zone will truly be special.

Dan's a professional photographer but when he gets his photo shot he chooses the good people at Coast Mountain Photography to capture his air in the Whistler Mountain Bike Park.

Anticipation killing you? Early Bird passes for the Whistler Mountain Bike Park are on sale now until May 31.  Season Passes, Triple Play Cards and the NEW Twilight Triple Play Pass are on sale and they will get you on the mountain as much as you need to be. More information and buy online here.

The Proof: Conrad Petzsch-Kunze

April 24, 2012

Hmmmm…

What does Conrad do? How does one answer this question… he is an amazing graphic designer and photographer. He specialises in crazy tech stuff that no one else understands and his passion for what he does is truly rare. He is driven by his surroundings whether it be snowboarding in the BC backcountry, riding DH in the summer, BMX’n at the trails or surfing the oceans. This man knows no fear. He stands only long enough to drink a glass of almond milk.

But it’s Conrad’s personality that is the true creator, whether you’ve just spoken to him for the first time or you’ve known him for years, a conversation with Conrad and his radical way of thinking will leave you inspired and motivated.

The Photos

01 Snowboarding is a must!

02 A project I was just involved in…

03 I could shoot reflections all day long!

04 When hungry? Eat a burger or go to Gone Bakery!

05 So close but so far…

06 A place like no other!

07 Dirt merchant to Aline!

08 Mother Nature is amazing!

 The Questions

What neighborhood do you live in?
Right now in Whistler. Best place to be!

What do you do and where?
I am a designer/photog/web. My main goal is to create and communicate visual outcomes. Be it on paper, a tee, website/web app, photograph or in motion. Most of the time I can be quite transparent and work where ever I want to be.

What are you working on?
Lately I have been involved in a few projects with the Anthill Films Crew working on the artwork & marketing for their films. Check it out - http://anthillfilms.com/strengthinnumbers/

Where can we find your work?
I have a website! A few photos have been printed around the place. http://conradpk.com/

Strength In Numbers Mountain Bike Trailer Released

April 5, 2012

A DRAMATIC EXPLORATION OF DIVERSE MOUNTAIN BIKE COMMUNITIES ALL OVER THE WORLD. (Including the Whistler Mountain Bike Park!)

Whistler Premiere is May 18 (also opening day for the Whistler Mountain Bike Park) at the Whistler Conference Centre.

Strength in Numbers is an action sports film that explores mountain bike culture through the experiences of the world’s best riders. Anthill Films, in co-production with Red Bull Media House, have created a film that will change the way the world sees mountain biking, both on and off the screen.

Strength in Numbers combines progressive action and beautiful cinematography with compelling stories to show how the many different sides of mountain biking are all connected.  The filmmakers, who brought you ‘The Collective’, ‘Roam’, ‘Seasons’ and ‘Follow Me’, traveled the globe to find communities that represented the many sides of the sport, with film shoots in British Columbia, Nepal, Scotland, Austria, Switzerland, California, Utah and the Whistler Mountain Bike Park.  For the crew and riders, Strength in Numbers represents a way to give back and progress the sport.
