Ebi the dog

Name: Ebi. I have a pink spotted belly and love to get it scratched.

Breed: Border Collie & Husky

Stomping ground: The rivers and bike trails of Squamish.

Best thing about being a Whistler dog: Everything! I am a people-dog and I just love all the attention I get from everyone. It also doesn’t smell too bad around here either…

Other info: My mom brought me home from the pound one day and it was the best thing ever. I love going for walks with my best friend Bella and am addicted to chips and popcorn –  if I even hear a bag crackle I am there in a flash! I also like to give hugs and to ride shotgun in the truck.

WAG Dog Wash

Do you have a dirty pup? Then you’re in luck – tomorrow, Saturday July 28th, the local animal shelter WAG (Whistler Animals Galore) will be hosting their annual doggy wash at the Whistler Fire Station from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. And the rumour is that if you come early, your pup can even get his/her toenails painted.

There will also be a BBQ in the village and the newest flavours of yummy treats from Auntie Kim’s Better Bickies for your four-legged friends!

For more info, check out WAG’s website.

Chasing Tail: Sketchy

Sketchy the Terrier cross

Breed: Sketchy is a Terrier cross who at times appears to prance about like a coyote – definitely a true WAG dog. She apparently got her start in Seton, where some wild dogs attacked part of her litter.

Stomping ground: Emerald Estates – Sketchy has definitely established herself in the neighbourhood. She enjoys her evening strolls and running in the woods at any time.

Best thing about being a Whistler dog: “I am so happy to have convinced these humans to take me in, especially because I have my very own bed. Often, I go to work at Foto Source and help with deliveries and crowd control. I am also slowly warming up to the idea of some humans who ‘miss’ their dog leader and I occasionally allow them to get close to me. It is nice to see how happy they can get just by seeing me sitting without any restraining device and it is surprising how shocked they are to learn that part of my job is acting as a greeter outside the shop behind Citta’s. I actually spent a few hours apprenticing at Walmart for this and I am glad for the training they provided.”

Other info: “Last year on July 1st, as we returned from a holiday, my son decided that I could use an early birthday present and he met us at the bus with a young, nervous puppy. As challenging as the first little while was, and despite knowing that foster care had not worked for her in a previous home, we decided that we would overcome her ‘obstacles’ and make this work for all of us.

When our new puppy had been at WAG, the staff had given her the name ‘Duchess’. But after getting to know her, we decided at a family dinner that Duchess needed a new identity and, taking into account her nervous personality, we came up with ‘Sketchy’ as a perfect name.

Sketchy has now worked her way into our lives and our hearts and is showing us all the true potential that she has.” ~ Sketchy’s owners.

Breed: Golden Retriever

Stomping Ground: Spring Creek, Whistler

Chasing Tail: Jasper

Name:  Jasper

Breed: Vizsla

Stomping ground: The Rainbow development.  SInce I’m still a pup, I’m learning the area and getting used to walking on my leash.  My owners like to take me to the ball diamonds to let me hang with some of the other local Whistler dawgs.

Best thing about being a Whistler dog:  There are limitless areas to explore and the scenery can’t be beat.  I can hardly wait for summer to arrive – I hear Barking Bay is a great place to meet bitches.

Other info:  I’m a 2012 pup.  Like many Whistler locals, I was born in Ontario and headed west when I was old enough to leave the house.  I come from a litter of 9 high-energy brothers and sister.  I love running laps around the living room and trying to sneak up on the couch.  If you see me at the ball diamonds or on the Valley Trail, be sure to say hello – I love meeting new friends!

Haylen the dog

Name: Haylen

Breed: Alaskan Racing Husky

Stomping ground: Pemberton

Best thing about being a Whistler dog: “I love going for long hikes in the forest, mountain biking, swimming, running really fast and rolling around in the snow. Best of all, I love the fact that no matter where I go, everyone has a friend for me to play with.”

Other info: “I am a 4 year old female Alaskan Racing Husky who was born and raised in Pemberton. I am part Husky and part Whippit – that’s why I’m so skinny.  I love everyone but especially love those who give me treats!”

Chasing Tail: Bowser

Bowser, Mastiff Lab Cross

Name: Bowser

Breed: Mastiff Lab Cross

Stomping ground: Whistler Cay Heights, which is super close to the Whistler Golf course and the Valley Trail that surrounds it – that is the usual route!

Best thing about being a Whistler dog: “The best thing about being a dog in Whistler is the stick/small tree collection that I have been able to accumulate! AND that my owners rarely have to put me on a leash because everyone here loves me!”

Other info: “If you see me coming I look kind of scary but I only wanna say hi! Keeping that in mind, I also like to steal any stick, toy, ball (especially golf balls), plastic bottle, or hose (vacuum or water hose will do) so hide them if you see me around!” :)
