T.A.G. – For Our Friend Christian
A little ethereal piece of our local woods for our friend Christian
Hello Whistler and World, a little reflection please.
Well, we all know Whistler is Awesome! It is a given. There is no arguing. Whistler is a vibrant, lush, mountain town situated between some of most awesome terrain anywhere I have ever traveled.
One of the beautiful aspects of the community is not only the whole but it’s members. The people that make the group, and create the vibe for the town, and give it the character. Having such a small population also keeps the bonds between the people even greater and more memorable.
It is with a very heavy head and even sadder heart that I announce the passing of one of those kindred spirits that make Whistler so unique. Christian Rhude has left us for the peaceful thereafter. A young man many say was too young to leave us. I agree.
One with many burdens and much pain yet, one never felt he had anything less than an indomitable spirit. His verve and love of the arts was a passion that all bound us together as he was always a regular supporter of the arts and would be at every art opening he could. He enjoyed collecting art and appreciated the talent we have here.
Many of his friends are talented and respected artists in Whistler. It was a pleasure to be there with him at so many openings and to enjoy his company over the years. The efforts he made will not be forgotten. May we all wish his family and friends our sincerest condolences and share a “Crown and Ginger” for the man. RIP Christian!!!
This might not have anything to do with art but…. This is a time of year that brings certain people to dizzying levels of excitement and glee. You’re thinking, what the hell is Arne talking about, the weather is crap and it’s raining buckets.
Well fans of Mycology will know what this time means. Time to take a walk through the forest and see what is popping up. It’s mushroom time!! First, I must warn you that if you are not familiar with the local species, please, consult someone who knows before you chomp on that mushy. It could be detrimental to your health.
That disclaimer said, there is soooooo much out there that it is unbelievable. The King of ground cover is starting to pop up so keep your eyes open, the Pines are here!! Hunting for mushrooms is a wonderful pastime as it really connects you with the local surroundings and teaches you of the flora and fauna to be found in the area. Please, be safe and never eat anything unless you are 100% sure. If not, don’t. Refer to friends, books, chefs, someone that knows. Now get out there and get connected!!!! Happy hunting!
