STRAIGHT OUTTA CROMPTON – WHISTLER BELIEVES THE INTERNET IS KILLING LITERATURE
Sunday night at 5:30pm Whistler Debates will be born and I’m not sure I could be more stoked! Finally a forum for lively, engaging and hopefully intelligent debate. Wine, interesting debaters, interesting debates and lots of opportunity for audience participation. I think you should come. And if you do; come armed with an opinion, an open mind and come ready for a debate.
This weekend is the Whistler Readers and Writers Festival and so literature it is. Thanks to digital technologies the written word is more widespread than ever, but how much is really being said? Is cheap (or free) content pricing the truly-talented out of the market? Or is the spark of literary genius too bright to be extinguished by new technology, however pervasive. All interesting questions and so Whistler Debates will debate the motion:
||WHISTLER BELIEVES THE INTERNET IS KILLING LITERATURE||
Arguing for the motion:
musician: CHELSEA D.E. JOHNSON & editor and creative FEET BANKS
Arguing against the motion:
huffington post associate news editor and recent whistler escapee JESSE FERRERAS & poet and literati JILLIAN CHRISTMAS
The inaugural will be at the Whistler Museum this Sunday starting at 5:30pm. The evening starts with wine and voting and the debate starts at 6:00pm sharp. Tickets are $7.00 at the door which is an incredible price for the quality of debaters the Whistler Readers and Writers Festival have helped line up.
Whistler Debates has been inspired by The Doha Debates and is a partnership between the Whistler Museum and Archives Society and Whistler Is Awesome.
