T.A.G. – Another Weekly From Your Minion Of The Arts

A few from our woods. ahhhh, lovely, albeit sideways a la Arne.

Hello artinados and welcome to another weekly from your fav minion of the arts.

Well Hello and if it isn’t a beautiful day in paradise, btw, I am also off today so it is a two-fold day.

The winds of change are upon us as fast as the frenzied parents are wrangling their kids gear for the new school year. I am sure these hurried last days are just the sort we have prior to a vacation. Making sure we have all our supplies and new clothes lined up for the big day. The only difference is that the vacation that is ensuing is the one of peace when the little ones leave the nest for the hallowed halls of higher learning. The storm before the calm.

As that mentioned, the new school year also brings in the new season and the hype for the following months, winter. That said the time leading till snow is a quieter time, a more peaceful trip through the seasons. One with less tourists, more leaves, fewer lines, greater discounts and crappier weather. For the last true shoulder season this one proves no different. As I mentioned last week, there will be no B-Grade Horror Fest this year, please check last weeks entry for deets. That dosn’t mean there isn’t a plethora of worthy events to take part in and be a part of. Here are two.

With the weather starting to turn it seems like a good idea to hunt out the interior delights of those dwindling days without light. I must give a shout out and send a wish to a friend on his exciting new venture that is the perfect remedy for those cloud filled days if your a fan of board, skateboard that is. Chris C. has just opened the Skate Cave in Function! What the hell is the Skate Cave? Simple, the Cave is firstly in the locale of the old Loral Furniture. What the layout is, is also simple, a beautiful wooden half-pipe with marble tombstone and wall ride options. The tranny is tight and zippy, perfect for the board locals. The remainder of the space is allocated for retail and a lounge. The “Cave” is one of the more unique and original ideas I have seen in many a moon. Not that indoor skate parks are a new item on the list of business, it’s just that this one is in Function and is superrrrr coolllll and it is owned by a local and a friend!! Check them out at, #4-1208 Alpha Lake Road, 604-932-1818 and on his F/B page, The Sk8 Cave!! Good luck my friend!!!

Other arty news in not so much arty as what you do with the info. Apparently, the salmon are back and are in droves. Exciting to the max!! If you have seen the run anywhere you know what a beauty it is to behold such a simple and awesome part of the cycle of life. It makes for a truly unique and exquisite art experience as well. I have personally documented the local run from the early days of my arrival in the Whistler corridor. I am still as astonished as I was the first time I saw the run. Some of the photos I have from those days are still some of the most memorable to this date. If I may suggest that one and all take part in witnessing this truly breathtaking migration and spawning session.

And in case you didn’t know. http://www.mediabistro.com/unbeige/people-who-like-art-are-better-than-people-who-dont-study-finds_b22858

Cheers and see you in a soggy week!!
