Plug Into Crankworx – Live Webcast Schedule + Mobile Site
Crankworx Whistler’s mobile site has launched and is ready to become an awesome resource for festival-goers on the ground in Whistler, and for people following the freeride mountain bike event around the world. The 10-day festival gets even closer to fans of freeride with live webcasts of ten different events, powered by Red Bull Media House, available at redbull.com/bike and crankworx.com.
“The Crankworx mobile site will let everyone stay on top of the non-stop action, whether they are looking for the latest race results or where the next party is,” says Darren Kinnaird, Crankworx General Manager. “People outside of Whistler can also experience Crankworx vicariously by tuning into the constant stream of social media updates on Twitter, Facebook and Flickr, not to mention daily videos on Pinkbike and sport recaps on our Vimeo page.”
The Crankworx mobile site will give users access to important festival information like event schedules, updated sport results, expo and venue information, as well as the party schedule – all accessible via smartphone or tablet.
Another huge component to bringing Crankworx to the masses is the live webcasts of ten events. The webcasts, powered by Red Bull Media House, will represent over 20 hours of live coverage; over 20 hours of replays and VOD clips; and over 100TB of data delivered to an audience in the hundreds of thousands all around the world.

This is all great except that some people (myself included) travel to Whistler from the states every year for Crankworx and can’t access the mobile offerings due to data charges. If Whistler would install a wifi network in the village it would make things like this a lot more useful for us foreigners.

I know the Resort Municipality Of Whistler has explored this option but it is a huge cost. It’s kind of like when I go to the States…like to Austin for SXSW for example…I am at the mercy of places that offer wifi.
Whistler Blackcomb has a lot of wifi coverage in their lodges and eateries so hopefully that helps out.
Hopefully one day we will be united by free wifi for all…as a social media fiend I would love to see everyone from all over the world tweeting and checking in and posting status updates and Instagramming their little hearts out all over the village.

Yes. Agreed- major cities have tested out all-consuming wifi networks, including Austin, but I’m not sure whatever came of them. Either way, access in Whistler has improved dramatically over the last few years, and I’m definitely appreciative of that.

I think the RMOW found something like 17 free wifi networks around the village; you should be fine. Stoked for Crankworx!

There are many models available for free wi-fi. In MTL I curated locative art that was accessible solely through specific hotspots… I worked with an amazing free community wi-fi group that partnered with local business to provide not only free wi-fi, but their own open source firmware routers that would log users into a local community network.
