T.A.G. – The Weirdos At The Function Junction Block pARTy
Wow, if anyone can figure this out I will buy them a ……. This photo is from Function.
Hellllllloooo Artinados!
So, as you expect, the weather was perfect and the venue divine. Being in Function makes most of the locations unique and gritty. The feel of a New York loft or warehouse area that has had the artists turn it in to their home/gallery/work space. Just enough dirt to keep it humble and enough fancy shops/galleries to keep it legit. The air was charged and the people are coming, the buzz abounds. They were coming in all there coloured regalia riding bikes, skateboards, rollerblades, rollerskates and home made swingbikes. The road was closed to car traffic which was great because the sheer number of people on Millar Creek Road was best described as congested. What with all the musicians and live painters on the street made it for some challenging walking. One had to stay focused. All the shops and galleries were open so that only made matters more difficult, one had to really be on point. All the people made for some people watching too!
The venue was the old Napa auto parts location beside the Wild Wood Cafe and Happy Pets. It is and probably will be one of the best and most suited to our needs as artists. Lots of space and just the right touch of run-downess! Don’t worry, we gussied up the place so that it would be a little more welcoming. We swept, mopped and cleaned the floor, bathroom, ohhh, watch out for the taps!! Tidied up the outside and got some lights hung! The nature of the space’s history was perfect, a car parts business!!!
The start was like the remainder of the night, awesome! Everyone was inside, outside, outback, all around! There was so much space for everyone to enjoy the Weirdos second showing in Function during the Block Party, that it felt like an extension of someone’s house. People knew each other and were smiling and greeting one and other. Kids zipped around the venue on their little bikes with little dogs chasing them as their laughter lit the space up. Parents trying to sneak a few extra moments of art appreciation in as some of the overtired little ones listed. Sounds of music melded with rhythms of summer fun. Girls with ribbons in their hair whizzed by me on their bikes off to another venue as they smiled talking to each other. No casualties were reported from the street hockey game, whew. All in all it was a brilliant night for art, friendship, romance, music and just general great camaradeire. Hope to see you at next years, I hope my head stops hurting by then and my cheeks don’t ache as much as they do from smiling this much.
The Weirdos are Pepe, Doid, The Incredible Amoeba and Me. With special guest Weirdos, Hayley Wirsching and Andrea Mueller.
