Art & Inspiration with Arne

Hello Whistler and the world!!

If your imagination wains, go to the top of a mountain or two!

Well, unless you have had your head in the snow, I mean sand, then you know summer has decided to visit us!!!  Yahhhhh!  It’s nice to feel the warmth of her sun’s rays and be out while she is beaming enjoying all the things that come with the sun.  Outdoor activities abound, art resounds and putting the two together is priceless.  Seriously.

Who dosn’t get inspiration from Mother Nature?  Ever look at a Chili piece?  Most art in the galleries in Whistler are nature/landscape based.  The sheer magnitude of art that is influenced by our surroundings is staggering.  Think about it for a moment and try to think of the last time it was that you saw a gallery in Whistler that didn’t have most of it’s wall space devoted to the noble nature?  For me, as some know, I am one of the few that enjoys both nature and the contrast of a societal progress and the sheer beauty that I speak of.  But this piece is not about me and my unusual fascinations, this piece is about our supreme inspiration.

That is the topic today.  It is with much pleasure that I may announce the Peak to Peak will open today for the remainder of the summer!!  Again, this is one of those topics where at first you will be, like Arne, what does this have to do with art?  As I mentioned before, what are we but from the experiences of our environment.  That being said, the ability afforded us by jumping between the alpine peaks of two of the most beautiful, inspiring peaks anywhere is just remarkable and fortunate.  I remember when I first arrived in Whistler and wanted to do the same thing as the Peak to Peak does now it would have taken 43 chairlifts and 3 and a half hours, just kidding.  It seemed that way when I compared them in my tortured little mind.  Now, we can ascend either Whistler or Blackcomb in a mere forty minutes or so, given the day and the operators.  Then, crossing the divide would only add on an additional eleven minutes!!  Can you believe that?  What used to take hours is done now in minutes!!!

Sheer awesomeness!!

The reason I am so excited about the opening of the Peak to Peak for the summer season is that as we all know, time is precious, we never have enough even with the late setting sun.  We want to make the most of the day and any time savings is relished.  For me, I just love getting where I want to go quickly and safely. When your there you can relax and rejoice in your surroundings and let the ambience sink in.  That is why we go to these heights.  To get inspired, influenced and awed.  I might add charged, like a battery looking for an outlet with inspiration.  As usual, you can not help but be influenced by your surroundings.  So get up there and light mother nature do what she does best and enjoy her beauty and bounty.  Bring a camera, canvas or just a journal so you can document the vistas within.  Let the sights wash over you like the calm of gentle waves lapping at your feet.  Ohh, did I mention there is still skiing and snowboarding to be had?

PS – Don’t forget our gorgeous lakes.

ciao and see you up there.
