The Proof: Photographer Ashley Nagy Ouellette

For the betterment of humankind, Ashley photographs things that she finds interesting.

This is fortunate for two reasons:

1. She is not interested in sunsets or rainbows.

2. She is interested in sideways-groomed beards.

And although her askew perspective on askew facial hair has resulted in one of the most evocative portraits I have ever seen, that is not the point.

The point is that she has extraordinary taste. Most importantly, her reflection of that taste is completely authentic, whether it be while shooting macro photos of hummingbirds, naming her chameleon (Andy Bernard), or choosing her wedding date (Halloween).

Ashley and her husband, Lightening Louie, are homeowners in town, which pretty much makes them as local as money can buy. I won’t tell you exactly where, because that’s one of the questions down lower, but I will tell you that they live there with Rupert, who sometimes wears Christmas sweaters and chases lazer beams and is also a cat.

PHOTOS:

01 – Family Portrait – Married my best bud 5 years ago, newest addition will arrive this Halloween.

02 – Snail Mail – I compulsively check the mail, nothing is better than a hand written letter.

03 – Neighbours – Just a couple of friends.

04 – Film – Nothing beats the process, anticipation and tangibility of film … Except for maybe snail mail.

05 – Walks – Unreal feelings when you’re surrounded by nature.

06 – Rupert – A true little rascal cute and completely ridiculous at the same time.

07 – Skulls – A cougar skull, part of our collection.

08 – Cameras – Every photographer collects these little guys.

QUESTIONS:

1. What neighbourhood do you live in?

Cheakamus Crossing – Amazing neighbourhood with amazing hiking trails right out my front door.

 2. What do you do and where?

I take photographs wherever I can. Due to grown up responsibilities I have a day job too.

 3. What are you working on?

After a challenging year I am picking up the pieces and gluing back all my morsels of inspiration. Preparing to be an amazing mother and have the time of my life.

4. Where can we find your work?

I currently have a few pieces on display at Gone Eatery in the village for the month of July.

www.ashleynagyouellette.com is where you will find my blog and portfolio.
