Artists in Wonderland: Apres Artisan

When celebrating a 30th birthday of any kind, tea for two just doesn’t seem appropriate….tea for two hundred more so fits the bill. Of course for the Whistler Arts Council such a celebration needs a twist of fun and uniqueness that one would only expect in our community – Whistler can make even après artistic. The result is the inaugural Artists in Wonderland event planned for April 29th where the passions of local culinary, libation, and art creators will meet in an effort to raise funds for WAC’s overall programming, with special focus on the children and youth segments. The Alice in Wonderland theme will transform the Squamish Lil’Wat Cultural Centre venue in to the ultimate not-to-be-missed après hot spot complete, with wine and David’s Tea service in traditional dainty tea cups. Whistler Cooks Catering will play the part by providing tantalizing finger sandwiches, while Sugar Momma Pastries will keep spirits and sugar levels high with decadent mini cupcakes.

Considering the exceptional caliber of local artistry talent expected to be on display and for sale through the themed silent auction tables and live piece-work auction, culinary creativity is only justly due. Pure Bread’s fresh loaves will be paired with Nonna Pia’s balsamic reduction, along with artisan cheeses and fruit from Nesters Market. For those still needing a bit more sugar, Delish’s chocolate dipped strawberries will be the perfect way to cap off an après like no other. Whistler is a community rooted in  drive and passion whether it be for sport, art, or life itself, so an event where this is literally put on visual and sensual display seems like the perfect fit. Rounding out the experience, the Mad Hatter in all of us may make an appearance thanks to samples of Pemberton Distilleries gin and vodka, as well as Sumac Ridge’s sparkling wine. Thankfully the soothing live tunes from Mikefrommontreal will keep this unique après tea-rific.

Tickets are available for $55 at Millennium Place by phone at 604-935-8410, or online at tix.com. What a perfect way to celebrate BC Arts and Culture week running from April 22-28. See you there!
