Big Kids LEGO Competition…the bricks were flying!
The first ever Whistler Big Kids LEGO Competition presented by the Whistler Museum and Whistler Is Awesome was a success! Sixteen competitors built for the glory of being crowned Whistler’s LEGO Champion and couple Keith & Jessica Reed took home the grand prize of a night at the Fairmont Chateau Whistler and two passes for the Scandinave Spa Whistler.
Their creation was called “Who Needs Snow?” and depicted a view from the village – Whistler and Blackcomb’ towering mountain peaks and the PEAK 2 PEAK Gondola strung between them and the Village Gondola heading up Whistler; mountain biking with a tiny LEGO rider about to air off a stunt, drinks at the GLC with a waitress reaching for a $100 tip (wow), and beautiful views (like no where else in the world). The photo below shows the back view of Jessica and Keith’s masterpiece.
Second place went to Jamie Colpitts, Fred Grillett and Patty Duval for their whimsically topical submission “3am Pizza Party.” The scene depicted three characters gathered about a pizza at Fat Tony’s – the Fat Tony’s Pizza Bear, the Party Dragon “Let’s fire it up,” and a Pizza Snake which is “self-explanatory” according to the builders.
Third place went to Pez Pengelly for his “Rainy Day Classic” masterpiece – “On a grey and rainy day, nothing beats breaking out the NES!”
The Whistler Museum and Whistler Is Awesome would like to thank everyone that came out for the event and a huge thanks to our friends at Vincor, Whistler Blackcomb, the Fairmont Chateau Whistler, Dubh Linn Gate Irish Pub, Scandinave Spa Whistler, Rocky Mountain Soap Co., Purebread Whistler and Prior Snowboards for donating some great door prizes as well as booty for first, second and third place.
The best LEGO builders in Whistler are right here folks! l to r – (3rd place) Pez Pengelly, (1st place team) Jessica & Keith Reed and (2nd place team) Fred Grillett, Jamie Colpitts, Patty Duval.

I am so happy there was an adult contest this year! I judged the contest last year, and all I could really think about was how I could kick those kiddies’ butts at lego. To much television these days, not enough spaceship building.
